French language and literature
The Department of French Language and Literature offers a rich and in-depth program of study that enables students to develop advanced knowledge in the field of French language, literature and culture. This Department prepares qualified professionals who can contribute in various fields, from education and culture, to diplomacy and international business.
The Department of French Language and Literature is a unit of the Faculty of Philology, offering bachelor's and master's programs for students who wish to specialize in French language and literature. The department has a qualified staff of teachers who provide advanced and rich theoretical and practical education in this field.
The BA and MA curriculum consists of linguistics, literature, literary history, cultural and civilizational history, concepts and methods of linguistics and literary research, translation, text theory and practice, linguistic practice, methodology-didactics of teaching French as a foreign language. This aims to deepen scientific, theoretical-methodological and practical knowledge as well as training in the constituent areas of this program.
Studies in the programs of the Department of French are very important for the development of communication skills and the acquisition of knowledge about the French language and culture. They enable students to develop a high level of linguistic and literary knowledge, preparing them for multi-sectoral careers, as well as opportunities to work in various professional fields. Kosovo's entry into Francophonie has expanded the opportunities for a good future for the French language in all areas of life (work, studies/research, translations, cultural activities, etc.
The programs of the Department of French prepare students to develop advanced skills in the French language and literature, analytical and critical skills, and in-depth knowledge of the culture and history of France and other Francophone countries. The programs provide opportunities for students to prepare for careers in the fields of education, translation, journalism, diplomacy, and many other professional fields. The department offers study programs at the bachelor's and master's levels. The course syllabi are prepared in a unified form and are available to students. They can access the course syllabi in tabular form, which includes course content, objectives, credits and teaching hours.
The department offers opportunities for international exchanges through agreements with universities and other academic institutions within the framework of Erasmus+. Exchange programs provide opportunities for students to develop their language and professional skills, living and studying at French universities such as Caen, Montpelier, Paris.
The department offers internship opportunities for students in primary and secondary schools in Prishtina, and students can also work in various companies and organizations, such as cultural institutions, translation associations, media, as well as embassies and political institutions of Francophone countries. These opportunities help students acquire practical skills and create professional connections that serve their careers.
In addition to academic teaching, the Department, together with the Francophone Professional Center, offers extracurricular training opportunities for the development of students. These trainings are important for the development of students as complete professionals. The Francophone Professional Center and the organization of trainings there, the cooperation with the Embassy of France, the Association of French Professors, the French Institute and the Francophone University Agency, in the teaching process give added value to the French Department.
The Department organizes numerous extracurricular activities, including conferences, discussion tables, reading and theater and film clubs, end-of-year parties, which are opportunities for students to deepen their knowledge and for the Department to also be a place of entertainment for them. The French Department organizes conferences with the possibility of publishing proceedings on Francophone platforms, as well as numerous scientific collaborations with faculties in the region and beyond (Albania, Montenegro, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Romania, France, Slovakia, etc.).
