German language and literature
The Department of German Language and Literature is an institution with a long and rich academic tradition, operating since the academic year 1992/1993. Since its foundation, this department has been committed to enhancing the quality of both teaching and learning processes by providing a strong academic and infrastructural foundation.
The department has a highly qualified staff with academic and scientific degrees, who are experts in their respective fields. The professors and lecturers have obtained their qualifications from prestigious institutions in Austria, Germany, Kosovo, and Albania. All professors hold the scientific title of "Doctor of Philological Sciences." Additionally, the department has sufficient infrastructure and equipment to serve both academic staff and students effectively.
Currently, the department consists of eight professors, one assistant, two lecturers (one from DAAD and one from OEAD), and an external associate, covering various fields of linguistic and literary research.
The Department of German Language and Literature is one of the largest departments within the Faculty of Philology, with over 350 students enrolled.
The German studies programs cover a wide range of topics.
The study of German Language and Literature develops language competencies, intercultural communication, and literary-cultural education, representing a significant pillar of the humanities.
The BA and Master's programs in "German as a Foreign Language" and "German Language and Literature" have been designed based on the labor market needs in Kosovo. These programs prepare students for careers in teaching, translation, media, cultural management, research, and international organizations, equipping them with analytical thinking, text interpretation, language proficiency, and communication skills. Additionally, students are prepared to pursue further studies at the doctoral level, which naturally enhances their career prospects. The employability rate of graduates from this department stands at 100%.
Extracurricular activities are organized by the department’s faculty in collaboration with universities in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, DAAD, OEAD, and the Goethe-Institut in Pristina. Moreover, activities such as the "German Language Days" are held annually at the initiative of the embassies of German-speaking countries.
Student and staff mobility is facilitated through various ERASMUS+ agreements with the University of Pristina and universities in Germany, Austria, and other European countries, as well as through scholarships offered by DAAD and OEAD for summer university courses, MA, and PhD studies.

The department has established numerous collaborations with research, scientific, and academic institutions in the field of German studies.
The Department of German Studies is also one of the founding members of the SOEGV (Southeast European German Studies Association). This association, with financial support from DAAD, organizes scientific conferences. The academic staff are also members of various associations in German-speaking countries, such as MGV, EUROPHRAS, etc.
As part of the Faculty of Philology, the Department of German Language and Literature actively participates in scientific projects in the fields of linguistics, literature, and translation. Through various scientific publications and active participation in conferences, sessions, and international symposia, members of the academic staff demonstrate the results of their research activities in their respective fields (see staff CVs).
